Do you have to pay a childminder after the contract end date?

As from September I can no longer afford my childminder and I have to give her 4 weeks notice before I end the contract but i don't understand if that too means that i have to too pay her for 4 weeks after the last day that she looks after my child.

No. You give her four weeks notice, then don't pay her anymore. Or you pay her four weeks money and thats it, over.
You could possibly come to an agreement with her, say two weeks money instead of four (with no childminding).

    • I think the other answers are confusing because they give TOO MUCH information. The second guy is just showing off.

Just give her four weeks notice, then you don't pay her anymore.
Meaning tell her today - Friday - that you want to end the contract at the end of August. That will be more than enough time.
If you tell her today, her finish date would be Friday 27th August - 4 weeks.

    • Notice is what it sounds like - a warning that their job is ending. These days, employees are expected to job their notice ...

.. in the 'old days', 'customer facing' staff were often handed 4 weeks money and shown the door (in case they spent 4 weeks upsetting the customers) = not any more ..
